One of the main things in a Taoist nei kung practice, when we have been on the way for already a while, is not the focus on doing certain things, on “action.” Rather, the focus is on not doing certain things, on not giving disproportionate space to (distorting, manipulative, and uncaring) actions and processes (爲學日益爲道日損) when listening to and conversing with the bodymind. This also affects our diet (心齋) because an important question is what gets nourished and how best to nourish it. In a nei kung practice, our relationship with the web of life is what is particularly cherished and nourished; the web of life is what we want to resonate with (以爲天下牧, 貴食母, 人法地). This is the real kung fu, the real work.
