Wing Chun and its first form

In the very first movements of the first form of Wing Chun (小念頭 Siu Nim Tau) you already get introduced to the energetic principles of spirals, pulses, and waves/ripples—basic principles of existence giving the form its name.

When you cross the arms downwards at the beginning, not only of the Siu Nim Tau, but all three weaponless forms of Wing Chun, you work with inwards turning (spiraling) movements in the arms. In the upwards crossing arms movement, there are outwards turning (spiraling) movements. At the same time, there are also deep pulses in the balls of the feet, sending waves/ripples through the bubbling well acupuncture field into the ground, and upwards through your whole body.

The pulsing in the balls of the feet is what happens shifting the weight from the heels to the balls of the feet when doing the crossing of the arms movement downwards and upwards. You have parallel multidimensional downwards and upwards impulses.

In every single movement within the forms, you practice combinations of energetic principles, training intuitive and instinctive capabilities as well as conscious creativity, liberating yourself from technique. You join the multitude of energetic fields, blending in. I think this is the true meaning of the practice of 永春泉 Wing Chun Kuen, the fountain of eternal spring. “Becoming” invisible, untraceable, a particle: 小周天、大周天、十牛圖。
